one of the reasons i love swimming is that it is an opportunity just to think (plus i lose weight and get a mild endorphin rush) today's topic was languages and specifically the difference between computer and human languages
one of the things i concluded (or perhaps returned to) was that human languages are analogue or at least in many ways reflect the analogue world they were evolved to describe. When is a bowl a bowl and not a plate? There is a continuum between the two. I don't remember language being described to me at uni as analogue but it is certainly evolved to cope with the fuzzy edges of the real world. (Jean Aitchison and her birdy birds and one of the most useful and interesting books i had at uni).
