Where Are They Now by Gene
you said that i should look to the future, i've seen it i'll stay here
i don't know why, i am tied to the winter, can't find the time to leave
the smallest gentle gesture, keeps the enemy at bay
all i needed was a word where are they now?
the sky seems a little lower, but for that a normal day
do i ask too much, where are they now?
you said that i, take more than i offer, yes this is how i spend my time,
and
you'll come undone, if you don't make the effort,
so seek and ye shall find
so when disaster struck me, no heart left to offend
oh i only wanted friends where are they now?
will you be there forever, say i'll never be without
don't blame me for my doubt
you see i can not stand there alone, i'm incapable of breathing
incapable of love
in my world, make me safe take me home
i'm incapable of breathing, incapable of love
you see i can not stand there alone, i'm incapable of breathing
incapable of love
oh oh in my world, make me safe take me home
i'm incapable of breathing, incapable of love
you said that i, should stop trying to call you
you've had it up to here
and i know you're sore, but i just can't ignore you
oh i'm lost in the fog
you said that i should look to the future, i've seen it i'll stay here
i don't know why, i am tied to the winter, can't find the time to leave
the smallest gentle gesture, keeps the enemy at bay

I bought this poster before xmas and thought i should investigate the shrine. I don't want a shrine celebrating japanese war criminals or some fascist emperor or shogun on my wall and discovered i like the japanese deity it is dedicated to and the hindu goddess she relates to. So it's pretty and meaningful.

awesome i don't believe that Neal Asher responded to my post about enjoying his latest book
i like that the power of the internet
happily posting away oblivious
i'm stunned

I scream ice cream
i'm paddling in a still and gentle sea of pain and depression
on the beach again and I gaze out over the vast open water
a mist of regret and emptiness hangs
twilight
i push my toes into the sand
i shiver
i hear a plane overhead
i leave the water's edge to go and buy an ice cream

i bought the most recent Thom Yorke album The Eraser a few weeks ago
i had heard mixed reports about it and when i first listened to it i was rather underwhelmed but i was off into town today food shopping for the weekend and stuck it on my iPod and now back home i have it over the speakers on its 4th time 'round consequetively -- a quiet grower

well beginning of the month and weighing time
despite xmas and that i've swum a lot less in December than in the previous months
according to the scales i normally use at the chemist's i'm down 2 pounds to 14 stone 3 so my BMI is now officially overweight from obese and a few minutes later i had to see my GP for meds and on his presumably calibrated scales 14 stone (89 kilos)
progress

one of the reasons i love swimming is that it is an opportunity just to think (plus i lose weight and get a mild endorphin rush) today's topic was languages and specifically the difference between computer and human languages
one of the things i concluded (or perhaps returned to) was that human languages are analogue or at least in many ways reflect the analogue world they were evolved to describe. When is a bowl a bowl and not a plate? There is a continuum between the two. I don't remember language being described to me at uni as analogue but it is certainly evolved to cope with the fuzzy edges of the real world. (Jean Aitchison and her birdy birds and one of the most useful and interesting books i had at uni).
